“A great photograph is one that fully expresses what one feels, in the deepest sense, about what is being photographed, and is, thereby, a true manifestation of what one feels about life in its entirety. ~Ansel Adams

“Sensitive people faced with the prospect of a camera portrait put on a face they think is the one they would like to show to the world… Every so often what lies behind the facade is rare and more wonderful than the subject knows or dares to believe.” ~ Irving Penn

Stay Near

Stay Near

“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.” ~ C.S. Lewis

“It was understood that they shared the same thresholds–the same inexhaustible appetite for wasting time, for discussing lofty ideas, for dissecting trivial things, for driving to nowhere in particular, for listening to music, for talking about books, for obsessing over pop culture, but mostly for laughing, talking, and simply being together. There was nothing one could say that the other would find too cruel or too kind. And on those rare occasions when they did tire of each other, they needed only go a day without talking before they yearned to reconnect.” ― Galt Niederhoffer, The Romantics

February, 2014

February. I can’t say February is a favorite month of mine. Were it not for the holidays prior to January I would be in a state of perpetual suffering through the winter. After the decorations are down, the trees are bare, the grass is splotchy brown, nothing in the fields, no flowers. Nature is in a state of sleep. And so it seems I mirror nature. I am drawn inside, indoors, and I want to just rest. As bleak as everything is, I know this is good for me. This time of rest as nature prepares for its majestic march into March. However, a severe winter storm served to awaken my spirit as bit. Trapped by ice and snow-packed roads I had no one to play with in the snow except myself.

image Oh, how I wish someone else could have been there. Too much fun for me alone to enjoy.

Happy Valentine’s Day

“They slipped briskly into an intimacy from which they never recovered.” ~ F. Scott Fitzgerald

January, 2014

So, we had Christmas in January. Due to many conflicting schedules we could celebrate as a family until January 3rd. It was kind of nice, actually. We were all beyond the Christmas rush, got to do some shopping on New Year’s Day (great sales!), and wait on good old FedEx and UPS, which were sadly behind on their shipping. Everything arrived except one thing for my son and it arrived the next morning at 8:00 am. He was still very happy. So that explains Christmas celebration photos in January. 🙂
